Water Polo by the Sea signs broadcast rights deal with Seven Network Australia

Broadcast: Channel 7, Saturday February 20 @ 12pm

Water Polo by the Sea, the international event held this summer in Sydney Harbour and featuring our very own Aussie Sharks Men’s Water Polo team and the Italian ‘Sette Bello’ is coming to Channel 7 in a one-hour feature broadcast.

The production by Chief Entertainment will feature footage using drones, in-water cameras and super slow-mo replays to showcase the very best of water polo; all whilst enjoying the back drop of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the iconic Sydney Opera House.

Water Polo by the Sea was the brainchild of former four-time Olympian, Thomas Whalan as a way of promoting the sport of water polo to a national and international audience by bringing the best international water polo to spectacular locations by the sea and has included locations including the iconic Bondi Icebergs Sydney Harbour’s Campbell’s Cove:

“In Australia we have spectacular locations by the sea which create a beautiful atmosphere for any event but by adding water polo we have something truly unique. The sport has deep traditions in beautiful locations by the sea in Europe especially and I really believe we need to be promoting the sport in this way to ensure the growth of water polo internationally. We’re very excited and appreciative of Seven Network’s involvement and confidence in this new platform which I’m confident will lead to many more opportunities for the sport of water polo in the future.”

Water Polo by the Sea reached some 4 million people this year through Online, Print and TV audiences before taking into account the upcoming national broadcast on Channel 7 in Australia in February.

The Australian and Italian Men’s teams took part in combined training sessions to kick-start their Rio 2016 campaigns and battled it out in the pool with 3 Test Matches with the Australians taking out the series 2-1. The competition was certainly fierce with no love lost between the two rivals and the broadcast to be aired on Channel Seven on Saturday February 20 at 12pm includes more than just a little wrestling in the water.

The broadcast will be hosted by media personality Elka Whalan with commentary by Mike Westorp and Thomas Whalan.
